The purpose of the Nurse Education, Practice, Quality, and Retention (NEPQR) - Workforce
Expansion Program (WEP) is to increase the nursing workforce in rural (non-metro) and
underserved areas to address the critical shortage of nurses, specifically in acute and long-term
care settings.
