Description

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) National Center for Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion is advancing the development of clinical decision support (CDS) tools designed to facilitate evidence-based cancer screening and management at the point of care. These CDS tools integrate up-to-date, computable guidelines into electronic health records systems to support clinicians in real-time clinical decision-making. The CDC has previously developed computer algorithms for cervical, breast, and colorectal cancers.

This NOFO has two components:

  1. Component A.  Cervical Cancer Clinical Decision Support (CDS) tool: This component focuses on the system-wide implementation and evaluation of a publicly available cervical cancer CDS tool within a large health system. The primary objective is to enhance guideline-concordant screening and ensure timely follow-up and management after abnormal results. Applicants are expected to rigorously assess both the implementation processes and the efficacy of the tool in improving cervical cancer screening and management.

  2. Component B.  Breast and Colorectal Cancer CDS tools: This component aims to pilot test publicly available, interoperable CDS tools for breast and colorectal cancer screening. The scope includes technical integration of these tools into real-world electronic health record (EHR) systems within a large health system, comprehensive documentation of the implementation process, and empirical evaluation to assess the accuracy and impact of the tools.
