The U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), hereby requests applications from eligible departments or offices of States (including territories of the United States) to obtain funding to assist States with the development and implementation of a State process for informing motor vehicle owners and lessees of open motor vehicle recalls at the time of motor vehicle registration or other touch points associated with vehicle registration. Grants will support States in developing a methodology for determining open recalls on motor vehicles, informing owners and lessees of the open recalls at the time of registration and other intersections of the consumer’s vehicle and the State, and evaluating through the analysis of completed recalls the performance of the notification program. Award Recipients must implement the notification program for a two-year period and then evaluate the results.
