The NIH Cardiovascular Repository for Type 1 Diabetes (CaRe-T1D) was created to improve research on type 1 diabetes (T1D) and cardiovascular disease (CVD). Cardiovascular complications remain the top cause of death among people with T1D and greatly shorten lifespan. The mechanisms underlying atherosclerosis, cardiomyopathy, endothelial dysfunction, and cardiac autonomic neuropathy in T1D remain poorly understood.
