Ancillary Studies to Ongoing Clinical Projects (R21 Clinical Trial Not Allowed)

Agency: National Institutes of Health

Assistance Listings: 93.846 -- Arthritis, Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases Research

Last Updated: May 13, 2026

Description

National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) intends to publish a Notice of Funding Opportunity (NOFO) to solicit applications for research on ancillary studies that aim to leverage the resources from the ongoing parent clinical studies such as well-characterized patient cohort(s), infrastructure, data, and biological samples. While parent studies can be outside the NIAMS mission, this ancillary study should meet the NIAMS mission. Applications are not being solicited at this time. Notice is being provided to allow potential applicants sufficient time to develop meaningful collaborations and responsive projects.  Investigators with expertise and insights into diseases and conditions within the NIAMS mission are encouraged to begin to consider applying for this new NOFO. In addition, collaborative investigations combining expertise in leveraging clinical research will be encouraged, and these investigators should also begin considering applying.
