A. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The U.S. Embassy in Mozambique of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition for organizations to submit proposals to implement a Youth Basketball program headquartered in Pemba. Please follow all instructions below.

Priority Region: Cabo Delgado

Program Objectives:

Use basketball programs for children and youth to promote community cohesion and leadership skills as a way to promote peace, decrease discrimination, and engage young people through sports. The program should center basketball and associated activities to organize tournaments that encourage healthy competition, build resilience following trauma, empower youth, unite their communities, stimulate community-government relations, and foster peace.

The project should also cater to sustained activities promoting the physical, educational, emotional, and psychological health. Involvement of professionals that will help the children navigate through their trauma, provide supplemental support systems to keep children in school, promote unit is crucial.

The grantee should provide necessary means for the beneficiaries to have desired conditions that enable them to reach the areas of activities, be part of the program, and have the necessary sports equipment and proper athletic footwear.

Participants and Audiences:

The focus should be on children and youth between the ages of 6 – 21 who have an interest in sports, include natives and internally displaced youth, with a special emphasis on girls and young people with disabilities. Young people who are not in school should also be part of the project and encouraged to return to school through the project.
