This funding program supports the operation of State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs) in the 50 states, 5 territories, 3 Freely Associated States, and District of Columbia within allowable program areas described in the National Historic Preservation Act and the Historic Preservation Fund Grants Manual. In accordance with the National Historic Preservation Act as amended, 54 USC §300101, this funding opportunity is limited to:State governments, as defined in 54 USC 3001 et seq. also known as the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended. Further eligible applicants are defined in 54 USC 302902 - Grants to States; 54 USC 302908 - Grants to the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, the Republic of Palau; and specifically in 54 USC 300317 – States.  One nonprofit organization, Ohio History Connection, is eligible to apply serving as the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office.
