The U.S. Embassy Bishkek Public Diplomacy Section (PDS) of the U.S. Department of State announces an open competition to promote Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) education and investment in the Kyrgyz Republic. Poor access to STEM educational resources, particularly in rural provinces, limits economic opportunity throughout the Kyrgyz Republic, contributing to brain drain and outmigration. For Kyrgyzstanis to harness STEM opportunities being developed in the United States, there is an urgent need to expand rural STEM educational opportunities, equip educators to teach STEM topics, attract STEM investment, and modernize the STEM education curriculum.

Additional information

The following non-profit organizations are eligible to apply: • Kyrgyz Republic-Registered: o Not-for-profit organizations, including think tanks and civil society/non-governmental organizations o Public and private educational institutions o Individuals • U.S. non-governmental organizations (NGOs), educational institutions, and individuals seeking funding to support cultural and/or educational program in the Kyrgyz Republic and partnering with Kyrgyz Republic-registered organizations. For-profit entities, even those that may fall into the categories listed above, are not eligible to apply for this NOFO. Organizations may sub-contract with other entities, but only one, non-profit, non-governmental entity can be the prime recipient of the award. When sub-contracting with other entities, the responsibilities of each entity must be clearly defined in the proposal. For more information on the difference between sub-contract and sub-recipient, please refer to 2 CFR 200.331.
